Satisfied For-Profit School Graduates, where are you?

Posted by Deborah Halasz on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, In : Life

The US Department of Education has recently entered into a discussion about a radical change to student lending that could affect for-profit schools. The resulting action could eliminate federal funding from those for-profit schools whose graduates spend more than five percent of their monthly income on repaying their student loans.

For-Profit schools have always come under a lot of scrutiny. Even though most for-profit schools are approved by similar accrediting organizations and can offer c...

Who should adopt?

Posted by Deborah Halasz on Thursday, February 4, 2010, In : Life

Yesterday, on the radio, I heard a DJ say that those who can't have children naturally shouldn't be allowed to adopt.  Really?  He later tried to dig himself out of a hole by saying he meant homosexuals, not that the new statement was any better.  But regardless of how he tried to "fix" his earlier statement, it still stung.  There are so many people in the world who aren't able to have children, some that do have children but aren't able to have anymore, and those who keep on having children...

Changing it up a little bit

Posted by Deborah Halasz on Thursday, January 28, 2010, In : Life

I know I have been consistent with this three people to a blog theme; however, today, I'm going to stick with two multi-talented men:  JQue and Eman

Patrick Michael Smith, aka J. Que, could be considered a hodgepodge producer and songwriter.  He is a fan of all genres and has worked with such artists as Fantasia, Usher, Avant, Chris Brown, Bryan-Michael Cox, Keri Hilson, Tricky Stewart, Chris Brown, Lil Jon, Antonio Dixon, Adonis, Eric Dawkins, and Jordan Knight, to name a few.  Yes, there's...

Songwriters, Producers, & Promoters

Posted by Deborah Halasz on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, In : Life

We interrupt this blog, once again, to talk about what goes on behind the scenes of the musical artists, i.e., the producers and the promoters, and the songwriters.

StrayCat promotions is a one-woman army who has worked long and hard at getting new artists known and heard.  Kelly, or Stray as she is better known, became a friend of mine through a mutual love of the New Kids on the Block; however, I have watched how her initiative and persistence has paid off for her in a very big way.  She i...

LeeAnn, Jimmy, & Rob

Posted by Deborah Halasz on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, In : Life

My next three artists are deftly diverse in genre:  LeeAnn Anderson, Rob Lewis, and Jimmy Marsh.

LeeAnn Anderson was introduced to our radio station, NKAirplay, by way of our listeners.  One of her friends tweeted us on the day her single came out and asked if we would play it.  As we had already set a precedent of playing New Kids' fans' music, we said okay, and LeeAnn got us the single.  Her musical background involves dance, drama, and singing in her church choir. Her song, "No Words Left...

Contest

Posted by Deborah Halasz on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, In : Life
Before I post another blog about some amazing artists, I want to share a contest I recently held with our NKAirplay Radio listeners. I'm not a big fan of autographs unless they are personalized and I already have Joey McIntyre's new album on Itunes, so when I received his autographed picture and physical CD of his new album, it made sense for me to either give it away or sell it.  Granted, I could have made some decent money via paypal, but part of being a blockhead (aka a New Kids on the Blo...

Two More Artists for Your Listening Pleasure

Posted by Deborah Halasz on Monday, January 25, 2010, In : Life

The next two artists I want to share don't actually share the same genre, but I love them just the same.

Again, all of these artists I met as a result of my support of NKOTB.  Remember my earlier blog about how being a fan taught me more than I ever thought I'd know about music?  Well, the majority of that is my introduction to new artists such as Soul and Roscoe Umali.

Soul or Solange currently resides in Montreal.  Actually, she's originally from South America and is trilingual, speaking ...

Irish Hip Hop

Posted by Deborah Halasz on Monday, January 25, 2010, In : Life

Since I have a few blog posts about music, I thought I would use this blog to talk about a new genre that is quickly becoming a favorite -- Irish Hip Hop.  I first heard about one such artist, Shaymin, through his connection to the New Kids on the Block.  He grew up with the NKOTB and he says that they inspired him to be who he is today.  I had the opportunity to met Shaymin at one of my New Kids on the Block concerts.  The other two artists are from Ireland and were introduced to me through ...

Trip to Costco

Posted by Deborah Halasz on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, In : Life
Today was my first trip out of the house since being in the hospital. I don't want to bore you with the details, but suffice to say, I returned home on the 15th with a walker because I have generalized weakness on my right side. I've been couped up in the house until today, so I was very excited to get out.

My husband and I went to Costco to use a gift card one of my aunts had sent me.  We didn't have a handicapped placard, so my husband wasn't able to park up close.  But, as soon as we did pa...

Five Hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes

Posted by Deborah Halasz on Friday, January 8, 2010, In : Life

Lately, there seems to be a lot of New Kids on the Block fans writing blogs about what the band means to them.  A lot of them are reading more and more like a “what did I do last summer” type of essay, but I’m finding that more than anything else, the blogs are the fans' way of legitimizing their love and trying to explain what I can only say is unexplainable.  That might sound a bit egotistical and biased, but the truth is, if you read any journalist’s critique of a NKOTB appearance ...

Last blog of 2009

Posted by Deborah Halasz on Thursday, December 31, 2009, In : Life
True, there is still almost 24 hours left of 2009, but given my track record and timing of when I write my blogs, this will most likely be my last blog of 2009.  Today was an exciting day, though, at least for our radio station.

All week this week, we have put together individual shows for each of the New Kids on the Block as individuals and as a group as a Christmas present to them.  Tonight was the Jordan Knight show, and as a surprise to everyone, including the staff, we found out that Jord...

Two more days!

Posted by Deborah Halasz on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, In : Life
Yes, I am counting down to 2010, but if you've been reading this blog, you know that by now!  And, no, I still haven't figured out how to add a comments section for this blog.  According to my "advanced settings" comments are enabled, but I have no idea where they are!

Today's blog, well part of it, is about sharing.  I love reading good blogs, which is probably why I'm forcing myself to get better with maintaining mine, so I want to share some of the good ones I've read lately. Of course, I d...

Change

Posted by Deborah Halasz on Monday, December 28, 2009, In : Life

"When the fire of commitment sets our mind and soul ablaze, when our hunger and our passion meet to call us on our way, when we live with deep assurance of the flame that burns within, then our promise finds fulfillment and our future can begin."

This morning's service was a burning service, where we wrote down that one thing we wished to rid ourselves of and the one thing we wished to become our passion for the new year. I really showed my ideational side when I wrote about what I wanted t...

What a crazy year!

Posted by Deborah W Halasz on Friday, December 25, 2009, In : Life
I couldn't be happier that 2009 is almost over.  It's been a horrible year of job searches, employer rejection letters, wasted job fairs, missed birthday parties, etc.  I know, in my last blog, I said I wasn't going to focus on the negative, but this is my last opportunity to tell everyone how much I hated this year!

Tonight is Christmas eve, and what are we doing?  Watching a season of Seinfeld while eating pasta.  What a way to celebrate.  No Christmast tree, no decorations, no presents beca...

New Blog site

Posted by Deborah W Halasz on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, In : Life

For the moment I have decided to abandon my blogger page so that I might combine my school experience with life experience.  Perhaps someday I will have a need to separate the two, but for now, it is obvious that my "business" has not taken off the way I had hoped, so there is no need to pay for expensive hosting to maintain it.  For now, I will maintain this blog so that I might learn something from my writings.

Last night I attended my first winter solstice celebration at my new church - Kit...

I am always looking for ways to contribute to research whether it be with a teacher, administrator, neurologist, educational researcher, etc.  I'll gladly volunteer my time for such an opportunity.

My skills include writing, researching, promotion, speaking, counseling, instructing, and training.  My goal is to contribute to K-12 education through the investigation of learning strategies, multidisciplinary instruction, and student responsibility.  I particularly enjoy longitudinal studies.

If after reading some of my blogs below, you feel I might be a good fit to work with or assist you, please contact me.

Thank you,
Deborah
